Piltown hosted The Rower Inistioge on Wednesday evening in Round 2 of the Under 16 league.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Piltown were slow to settle as The Rower made the brighter start, looking dangerous from the opening minute. Piltown gradually grew into the game and created several goal chances, finding the net twice and striking the post on two further occasions. Despite this, they were left frustrated to only level at half-time, 2-4 to 0-10.
The second half began with both sides trading scores in a closely contested opening. However, ten minutes in, The Rower struck for a crucial goal from a well-taken 21-yard free, which shifted the momentum firmly in their favour. From there, they took control of proceedings.
To their credit, Piltown never gave up, but were guilty at times of chasing goals when points were on offer. With several players featuring in their third game in five days, fatigue began to show as the match wore on.
The Rower finished strongly to secure the win on a final scoreline of 2-9 to 1-19.
