JUNIOR CAMOGIE – Summer League 2026.
Friday 24 April.
Graiguenamanagh 1-07 Piltown 1-07 .
Kate Anthony came to the rescue with a stoppage time goal to grab a draw away to Graiguenamanagh on a Fab Friday. It was probably a fair result, although the home side would probably think they should have won it, and after hitting 11 wides over the 60 minutes, maybe they should have.
Piltown were better on the wides , only hitting 3 , and they all came in the second half. The weather was fab, and there was a nice crowd out enjoying the sun and the game. The game started brightly, with the home side tapping over points to put themselves 3 points ahead after 6 minutes ,scored by Denise Byrne , Darcy Bolger and Megan Kinsella. Aine Doyle got our first reply, soon followed by midfielder Aine Hahessy, as the midfield battle heated up.
And it was centre forward Darcy Bolger ,who was excellent throughout, who got her second of the half in the 15th minute. We then lost Aoife O’Shea to injury and were down to 14 players , and very sportingly, Graig withdrew one of their own players to make it 14 v 14 – a great display of sporting behaviour, well done to management & players.
It was then the turn of the Piltown centre forward Izzy OHora to hit two of her own to level the game heading into the 28th minute, but the no.11 in green would have the final say of the half as Bolger struck it over the bar just before ref Paul Hunston blew for half time.

GRAIGUENAMANAGH 0-05 PILTOWN 0-04
It was a strange game really, as the home side did all the hurling, did all the shooting but were hitting them wide, and leaving Piltown just in the game. Aine Doyle drew us level , but again Graig hit back, Lynda Murphy and Denise Byrne on target to return the lead to 2 points.
The second half was stop-starty (is that a word?) , a few injuries slowing down the game, and the intensity dropped a bit also. Aine Doyle took advantage when handed the chance of a free , and Aine made no mistake to bring it back to one. And yet again , Graiguenamanagh hit back, but this this it was a green , not a white , flag been waved when Denise Byrne pounced on a loose ball and struck it from the ground into the net past Danielle O’Brien. Was this it? The turning point? Could we fight back?
We had 12 minutes left , and for a lot of those minutes it was the home side that looked like scoring as they struck wide after wide, and it took us until the 57th minute to score , as Aine Doyle again pointed from a free.
Time now ticked into stoppage time, as Piltown huffed and puffed until Kate Anthony set up Izzy O’Hora to shoot, and Graig keeper Meagan O’Grady pulled off a great save, followed immediately by another as she saved the follow up , but then Kate Anthony popped up and drove the ball to the net from close range. It was tough on keeper OGrady, and tough on Graiguenamanagh , but that’s sport. Great battling to the final whistle and we leave with a draw.
