Piltown 0-07 Rower Inistioge 2-16
Piltown exit at the hands of a strong skilful Rower Inistioge side that were well worth the score they put on the board.
The Rower started brightly as their midfielder Muireann Kenny was successful with 3 frees in the first six minutes, not easy on a very wet evening in south Kilkenny. The away side had the benefit of the breeze as they played towards the show fields and they took advantage. Their forwards were fast and skilful with Fauve Walsh and Laoise Kehoe impressing, Kehoe grabbing the only goal of the first half. Piltown struggled in the slippy wet breezy conditions, there was no lack of effort, they just couldnt 'get going' .
The half backs were going ok, Katelyn Moore, Georgina Quirk and Cliodhna Gleeson all battling away. Grace Farrell got our first point in the 7th minute from a free , and as mentioned , the conditions werent the best, and they contributed to Grace missing a couple she would other wise have put over the bar.
The Rower were plugging away, and Piltown did their best to try stop them, and at half time, although behind, there was still a bit of hope.
HALF TIME - PILTOWN 0-02 ROWER INISTIOGE 1-09
Muireann Kenny resumed her free taking, and scoring in the first minute with one of the many frees in the game, Meabh Kenny and Ciara Bolger added some more from play as the lead was stretched out. Piltown were reliant on the free taking of Grace Farrell as she scored five of them in the half to try claw back the game. Kate Anthony and Rachel , full of hard work , running and endeavor , were going well in the centre but the ball was being delivered long over their head into the Rower forwards .Sweepers were now in use and it did help the home side steady the ship, and turnover ball and create some chances. Saoirse Barry , captain of the side, and Siobhan Aylward worked hard to create , but they were up against tight marking defenders, and the ball just didnt break they way they needed at times. Fauve Walsh finished strongly for the away side , as the number 13 scored 3 points and a goal to finish out the game. A tough score to take for the Piltown girls , as they exit, but the Rower are a very good side . Well done and best of luck.
