PILTOWN 4 -03 EMERALDS 1 -01
Piltown claimed the victory on the front pitch in front of a good crowd as Aoibhinn Stuart proved to be the difference as the home side put on a top class second half display to defeat an Emeralds side that looked like they were right in it at half time.
It was a game of two halves , the first half was an even fought half. Both sides were evenly matched and were battling for everything as the score remained at zero until Aoibhinn Stuart put the ball over Neasa Doyles crossbar in the 16th minute to open the scoring. There was plenty of space around , as the dimensions of the pitch made it a hard slog for these U13's, but they acquitted themselves well, with no shortage of girls on both sides that could go on a long solo run. Orlaith Frisby, Keeley Power, Faye Culleton and Farrah Foley on the Piltown side with Evelyn Powers and Eva Hughes ,in the Emeralds midfield alongside Michelle Cole and the impressive number 11 Laura Minogue who was dangerous throughout.
And it was Laura Minogue who had the best two chances for the away side in the first half, a free which just pulled wide and then in the 24th minute she forced Piltown keeper , Sadhbh Foley to make a good save to prevent a goal. And then just on the half time whistle , Aoibhinn Stuart, who was creating problems for Emeralds and chances for Piltown ,got the second point of the half. The Piltown half backs , Leagh Purcell , Elisa Frisby and Vivienne OHora needed to be tight on their markers, and they were throughout the game.

Ref, Willie Kearney got the second half underway , and straight away a crucial moment. Keeley Power made one of her surges towards goal, laid the ball off to Aoibhinn Stuart and she let fly from the 14, and the ball hit the net . What a start for the home side. It was a tough start for the away side, and soon after Stuart was at it again , as she picked up a loose ball around the square turned and struck it to the net. A bitter blow for Emeralds. But they were not giving up, Vanessa Cascara at number two was leading them from the back, Aoibhinn Manton at Centre back was breaking up the Piltown attacks , and Lila Rose Colleton and Tara Keane were trying to break through at the other end. Piltowns inside forwards, Elise Wilkinson, Niamh Fitzgerald and Celyn Hodge were busy, and hassling the Emeralds defence , making opportunities for others.
Tired legs were now kicking in , as the pitch size and the intensity of the game took its toll. And once again there was Aoibhinn Stuart to capitalise, as she was first to a breaking ball after Emeralds keeper Neasa Doyle pulled off a save, and she had her the third goal of the game. Soon after Faye Culleton scored Piltowns third point of the evening as the home side upped the gears, but on the 18th minute Emeralds were awarded a free on the 21 in the centre . Laura Minogue, stood over it and we all probably thought she'd take her point, but no she blasted it head high towards goal and it hit the net , a great strike! 7 minutes left , could they mount a comeback? But again Aoibhinn Stuart was set up by another run up the pitch by Keeley Power and Stuart made no mistake from the right side as she blasted it back across the keeper to the left corner. The final act of the game was left to the Emeralds centre back , Aoibhinn Manton who placed a free over the bar.
The final score was a bit harsh on the away side , who were well in the game, but tired legs took a toll in the second half.
County Board representative Tom Egan presented the cup to Piltown captain Elisa Frisby.
Well done to the Piltown team and management, and hard luck to the Emeralds side.
